Working within the home provides a unique opportunity to support parents to develop language during everyday routines with their child. We will address the challenge that comes with being highly structured for clear goals to unstructured for naturalistic communication interaction. This course will focus on ‘leaving the bag of toys in the car’ and explore ways in which parents can be supported to develop techniques and strategies for developing spoken language through listening. The course will include filmed examples and the development of key ideas for children at different stages of language development.
- Identify daily activities in the home for pre-schoolers
- Analyse everyday activities into micro-steps for communication goal setting
- Recognise techniques and strategies used to develop spoken language
- Generate ideas for overcoming the challenges of working in the home
