Steps Together

Steps Together

STEPS TOGETHER is a set of resources for the families of deaf babies and young children with cochlear implants and is linked to the original STEPS package.

STEPS TOGETHER aims to build parental confidence and skills by demonstrating in practical terms what is meant by developing listening and language through everyday routines and meaningful activities.

It provides families and professionals working with deaf babies or young children, with a kit of practical materials and ideas to help them to facilitate and enjoy their children’s progress.

The information is presented in manageable chunks using non-technical language and in forms which feel appropriate for ANY child’s family to have in their home.

Families are encouraged to use the play materials provided as flexibly and creatively as possible and to transfer the ideas to what’s already available within their own homes.

The package will include:

A set of seven STEPS TOGETHER booklets, one for each step.

A set of Chat Together cards. this is a series of photographs each illustrating early sounds, words or phrases. All are set within the context of everyday routines and feature several different families,

A set of Listening Sounds toys to introduce the concept of LING sounds

A range of play materials and toys, particularly chosen for their flexibility and child-appeal.
