Research Forum

Would you like to be involved in research at The Ear Foundation? Join The Ear Foundation Research Forum!

As part of its work in supporting people with hearing difficulties, their families and the professionals who work with them, The Ear Foundation has for many years had a lively and topical research programme.

We have an established Research Forum of people who are keen to be involved in research.

We would like to invite you to join us!

The Ear Foundation research arises from issues and concerns expressed by children and adults who use hearing technologies (such as cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing devices & hearing aids), their families and the professionals who work with them. Our research aims:

  • To facilitate the effective use of hearing technologies in daily life - at home, in education, at work or socially;
  • To provide accessible information that is practically relevant not only for family life, education, the clinic and research, but also for policy makers, funders and other commissioners.

The Ear Foundation Research Forum is very important in meeting these aims as it enables us to involve YOU.

By taking part in our Research, you are helping to make a difference!

What is involved?

If there is a project where your experience is relevant you will be contacted by The Ear Foundation and asked if you would like to help. You decide whether you would like to be involved or not.

What sort of things might I be asked to do?

You might be asked for your opinion on topics for research, to comment on the wording of questions in a survey or interview, or to take part in assessments, questionnaires or interviews. You will be asked to give consent if you are a parent/carer of a young person with hearing loss.

How much time would be involved?

You won’t be contacted very often and you will be told about the amount of time required at the start before you make a decision. It might be anything from a few minutes on the phone to an hour-long interview, or occasionally even more.

Do I have to take part in a particular project?

No! The research will be described and you then decide whether or not you would be interested in taking part. It is entirely up to you whether you agree to be involved in a particular project. Even when you are involved in a project, you are free to withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason. Your legal rights will not be affected.

Will my details be kept confidential?

Yes, completely! In no circumstances will any information that you give to join the Forum be passed on to any other individual or group. All research carried out by The Ear Foundation follows strict guidelines about confidentiality, ethics and data protection.

Will there be any payment?

No, you will not be paid for joining the Forum. You will receive the findings of the project(s) you have been involved in and The Ear Foundation newsletter, which will tell you all about our other exciting projects!

This Forum is very important to The Ear Foundation’s work and we hope you will join us!
