Course Description:
As professionals and parents we look forward to the exciting time when we know that all the listening games and focus on enjoying communication has paid off, as our young deaf children, many of whom have been proficient signers begin to use spoken language to communicate. This day will give the opportunity to explore ways in which children at this stage can be encouraged to develop their communication skills. There will be a focus on the optimal use of technology and how the child’s temperament and their approach to language learning impacts on their path of progress.
This course will give you:
~ Implantation and time to consider what it is like to live with a cochlear implant. ~ Discussions and information about children’s temperament, and learning style ~ Opportunities to consider the role of parents and the range of communication choices made by families for their deaf children ~ Practical ideas for helping children to extend their listening and develop spoken language beyond the first word level. ~ Group discussions and ideas for running listening and language groups
